Angela’s Collection Spotlight – My City, My Style, My Scene!

I think I was about eleven years old when My Scene first debuted in 2002. I can remember my best friend showing me her first wave Barbie, the excitement of how cool they were and they were exactly the same body as Barbie, so they could share my Barbies’ clothes!

My first My Scene doll was a Club Birthday Barbie…it took some time to convince my mother that it didn’t need to be my birthday for me to get a birthday themed doll! Haha! But I loved her purple color scheme and BRIGHT blue eyes.

When I was thirteen, I discovered the world of forum communities, namely one called My Scene Hangout, and I fell into a world I didn’t know existed until then. Stock photos of new, yet to be released dolls, hundreds of pictures of different ones I had never seen before, and a whole section dedicated to custom one of a kind dolls.

I saw My Scene dolls that were rerooted, repainted, even transplanted onto Obitsu or Volks bodies or articulated Barbie bodies. And I thought it would be so, so cool to own a one of a kind My Scene. Cooler still if it might be one I made for myself. Of course, my first attempts weren’t exactly phenomenal, working in my bedroom with a paper plate paint palette and cheap paint and brushes doesn’t exactly make for the best customs.

Last year, I thrifted a beat up My Scene doll for the first time, a Chelsea with her hair chopped off, and I realized it had been probably ten years since my last attempt to customize a My Scene doll. So, Chelsea became my first custom My Scene – now known as Trinity!

There are six custom girls in my set so far. Well, five customs and one restored childhood friend.

Left to right and top to bottom:

Trinity, a first wave Chelsea rerooted in Katsilk Saran and repainted, on an original made to move body.
Liberty, a Shopping Spree Kenzie rerooted in Katsilk Saran and repainted, on an original made to move body.
Kenzie, my childhood Miami Getaway Kenzie rerooted in titian Katsilk Saran with freckles repainted, put on a made to move body due to dead elastics and broken knee joints.
Brooklyn, another Chelsea doll (I do not remember which one) rerooted with Shimmerlocks Nylon and repainted, on a curvy Made to Move body.
Sheridan, a Miami Getaway Madison, rerooted with Shimmerlocks Nylon, repainted and put on a tall made to move body.
Waverly, my childhood My Scene Goes Hollywood Nolee, rerooted with Shimmerlocks Nylon and repainted, on a made to move body (I got a second Nolee that did not have janky overbrushed hair, so my childhood one became Waverly).

You’ll be able to find more of these girls in the photo gallery in the near future! Hope you enjoyed meeting them!
