Bay’s Story Time – How Stargate Fits In

So, here’s the thing. Dolls aren’t the only thing that’s had an influence on my life. I collect other things sometimes and some of those things, I collect because they hold significant meaning in my life outside just being fun.

One of those things is Stargate. Stargate started as a movie in 1994 and then a TV show called Stargate SG-1 in 1996. I got hooked on it in the 2000s, it was something I watched with my Dad for a long time, something we both enjoyed and I was happy to have that. We always had “our things” – Arizona’s Arnold Palmer iced tea/lemonade, Hostess SnoBalls, long rides on the motorcycle, and our love of science fiction shows.
I still have a vivid memory of my dad pausing the TV show partway through the first episode and telling me to get my shoes on, we had to run out for a minute. A forty minute drive each way out to the closest Target to buy a copy of the original Stargate movie. I still own that DVD and it’s been almost twenty years since I got it.
Stargate has become almost…like home for me. When I’m not feeling my best, when my anxiety is high or something just isn’t right, I can always go back to Stargate, both SG-1 and Atlantis and even Universe. It’s like visiting family, the characters are familiar and I know the stories inside out and backward at this point for two of those series.
Want to know what else is cool? I’ve met a lot of the actors from the various Stargate series (and two from the movie too!) and all of them have been lovely people. You hear that you should never meet your heroes because you’ll be disappointed….that’s not true of the Stargate cast. Not at all. They’re all so kind and fun to spend time with.
I’ve been to a few conventions and the Stargate cast members have all been so enjoyable to meet and talk with. Some of them have amazing memories too, if you show up at two conventions years apart, they’ll remember you. Or if you join in their twitch livestreams that some of them host, they’ll remember you and talk to you that way.
Makes the characters feel even more like friends. And that’s why I’m going to explain something here for the first time.
Those characters who show up on this blog live in the universe of Stargate. They live on the city of Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy, a quick step through the Stargate from Earth, yet several billion lightyears away from this world.
I don’t talk about that much because most people don’t know Stargate, so it wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense. But I love that universe and all the characters that come with it. They’re like old friends or family, just comfortable and familiar.
And…once…I made a custom doll for my favorite Stargate Atlantis actor. Meet Carson Beckett, played by Pauly McGillion! He will get his own post, so that I can show some of the other pictures that go with the doll – and the story behind it!
