My life is not as simple as some would have you believe. From the time I was but a child, I was blessed with one of the three gifts of Ireland. I am a Mind Soother, able to ease troubled minds and take painful memories away.

My family and those like us are often mistaken for witches and seers. We cannot see the future, but we can sometimes look into the past through the memories of those we are in contact with. It gives the appearance of knowing things we should not know and of Magick. And in its own way, it is Magick. For this, we are persecuted. Chased from our homes and threatened with torture and death if we’re caught using our gifts.

And so, when I was a very young girl, my family fled to the Isle of Skye in our sister country, Scotland. There, the Druids lived in secret. I was trained alongside Princess Sorcha, taught to use my gifts and the methods my family and others had found to hide what they did from those who would end us for it if we were caught.

My mother and aunt would leave with the Soul Healers and Bond Weavers, traveling from village to village in Ireland to share our gifts with those who need us. During wars, the Bond Weavers could afford the Mind Soothers and Soul Healers the ability to assist our warriors without being on the battlefield themselves, to give them the strength to continue and dull the sharp edges of the things they had seen in battle.

I remained safe on the Island with my Princess. We became fast friends, the Princess and I, sharing our thoughts and dreams and anything else we could get away with. In time, she spoke to the Druid elders, requesting that I become her handmaiden. I would train with the older women, learn to sew and mend, to cook, how to make the Princess’s bed ready and which clothes were for which occasions, that I might see to her every need.

In exchange, I would have unfettered access to the Princess and her living space, quarters within the Castle Skye close by hers for ease of access, and I would have all of my own needs met. I took the offer to stay close to my dearest friend and since then, I have only been apart from her when she travels with the women to the villages. I remain behind so that I might ready my gift to help her upon her return to Castle Skye.

My Princess is a Soul Healer. One of the strongest I have ever known. Sorcha of the Clan O’Reilly, known as the Light Bringer. It is my deepest pleasure to serve her in any way I can, both the mundane tasks required of me and the use of my own gift to ease her mind after her travels through the villages of Ireland.
