So, when I was about ten years old, my mother bought me Molly McIntire as a gift. Molly was my best friend through the rest of my childhood and into my teenage years – about six months after I got her, my folks divorced and my mother moved us to Oklahoma, to her parents.

My brother rebelled, I turned to my doll and my best friend Corinne for comfort. By the time I was seventeen, my brother was in and out of trouble almost constantly and I thought if I went into psychology, maybe I could finally help him.

Turns out that’s not quite how that works. But I do put my skills to use to help my friends and family with their mental health. I might not have my brother right now, but I have a wonderful husband named Jake and a beautiful stepdaughter named Gracie, plus full custody of my niece, Erin. Not to mention friends like Ty and Tink, Jessy, Mike, Matt and Damian, and Sky (Paige!) who are always there for me.

Connecting with the girls was easy; Molly and Emily helped bridge the gap, Gracie has Julie and Ivy and Erin has MaryEllen and her Just Like You doll named Katelyn. They love it when I let Molly and Emily play with them and I love to do it. They also love to bake thumbprint cookies – and save the Apricot ones for Jake, they’re his favorite!

Things could have gone differently, but right now, I wouldn’t change it for the world.
